Full Description
NN79NW 46 7144 9975
This farmstead is situated at the edge of an improved field beside the woodland which covers the ridge to the N of Craggan of Clune. Two buildings and a hut are ranged around a courtyard, together with the possible remains of a further building along the SSE side of the yard. The E building (KING95 451) has been completely obscured by clearance, while the other building (KING95 449) measures 9m by 3.4m within mortared-rubble footings. The hut (KING95 450) measures 4.2m by 2.1m within faced-rubble footings. Along the line of a dyke (and pre-dating it) to the WSW of the courtyard, there is a further building (KING95 448), measuring 9.2m by 4m internally, to the SE of which there is a midden hollow. The 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1872, sheet ci) depicts the buildings around the courtyard as roofed, with a much larger building occupying the same position as the hut. The building to the WSW is shown as unroofed.
In the dense birch woodland to the NNE of the farmstead (NN 714 998) there are several small cairns measuring up to 4m in diameter and 0.3m in height. In the improved field to the S (NN 714 997) there are large heaps of relatively recently cleared stone.
