Full Description

NN69NE 20 6918 9999

This rectangular building (KING95 788), which is situated on the top of a low knoll to the E of the Allt a' Chaorainn, measures 6.6m from N to S by 3.3m transversely within a stony bank spread to 1m in thickness and 0.2m in height. The knoll on which the building is situated forms part of a ridge of well-drained ground along the E bank of the Allt a' Chaorainn, parts of which appear to have been cultivated. Substantial field banks in the bracken-covered ground to the N of the building may form several conjoined enclosures. A pit, measuring about 2m in diameter and 0.4m in depth, has been excavated into level ground at the base of the knoll to the N of the building.
On a terrace to the S of the building there are about ten clearance heaps (KING95 790) which measure up to 6m in diameter. Linear clearance heaps lie along the leading edge of the terrace and stretches of ridging are visible between the cairns. A low ridge between the cairns and the E bank of the Allt a' Chaorainn may have been cultivated, and this may have continued farther to the N (see also NH60SE 6).
