Full Description

A stone implement was turned up in trenching ground in Cantray Wood which, until 20 - 25 years ago, had been under fir-wood for 60 - 70 years ago. The implement is of local polished micaceous gneiss originally 13ins long but now 9ins long - a part having been broken and lost by the finder - by 4 1/2ins broad by 1 1/2ins maximum thick. The edges and rounded point are sharp.
Joseph Anderson suggested it might be part of a primitive plough. Fraser suggests its use as a spade on sandy, light soil but because of its unchipped state discountenances the idea that it was the point of a cas-chrom.
J Fraser 1898. (Inverness FC Vol IV p 177 - HAW 9.2002)

There is no local knowledge of this stone implement.
Visited by OS (N K B) 12 August 1964.
