Full Description
This site is the former railway bridge over the River Oich at F. Augustus.
Site Visit: R. Murchison.
J Aitken : 22/01/01.
This bridge formerly carried the Spean Bridge - Fort Augustus branch Railway line (the Inverness and Fort Augustus Rly) over the River Oich to the W of Fort Augustus village (NH30NE 41). This railway was closed to regular passenger traffic (by the London and North Eastern Rly) on 1 December 1933. Only the piers now survive; these are depicted, but not noted, on the 1971 edition of the OS 1:10,000 map.
The location assigned to this record defines the apparent midpoint of the structure. The available map evidence indicates that it extends from NH c. 37634 09244 to NH c. 37678 09318.
