Full Description
At the top of Mallaigmore there is a natural crest . Just beside some large glacial erratics there is a small oval mound with a kerb of rough boulders. The situation and the irrregular nature of the kerb argue against a domestic site. It would be extremely exposed and is also unlikely to have been an animal enclosure. The most striking feature of the site is the lookout. It seems to be a beacon site, with commanding views of the seaway leading from Kyleakin. It is possible that such a beacon would date from the early medieval period rather than later. It may form part of an early warning syatem associated with the Norse or an even earlier one operated by the Picts or Dalriadic Scots.
