Monument record MHG29592 - Gleann Lichd

Like Glenshiel, Gleann Lichd has been extensively occupied and even cultivated at various times. Near the top of the glen, at Glenlicht House, is an extensive area of medieval or later occupation, perhaps one of the oldest of which is a very crude structure, externally about 7m by 3m, with rounded ends. This rather odd structure survives only to one course high, and there is no rubble around it. While it is possible that the walls have been robbed, there is equally suitable building stone in abundance all around. The structure still retains an inner and outer face, although the inner face generally does not penetrate above the present inner surface. Inside the structure the ground has been levelled by piling soil in the middle, rather than by terracing into the hillsdie. The structure lies perpendicular to but overlooking the River Croe, at a ht. of about 10m above the river. It is possible that this structure was only ever one course high.

Further upslope and to the SW (NH 006171) are two patches of conspicuously green patches of vegatation, one with part of what appears to be a circular setting of stones about 5m in external diam. This might represent an early sheiling site, but equally could belong to the prehistoric period.
