Full Description

Private graveyard, memorial cemetery. On knoll at west end of Loch Garry. Loch now extends past it following Hydro raising in 1950's. Soil sandy in nature. Was originally intended as site for a mansion but water supply big problem so became burial ground for Ellice family members and descendants and loyal followers and estate workers. A haven of peace (and midges!) for both believers and non-believers. Rt Hon Edward Ellice MP bought Glen Quoich end of Glen Garry estate 1838/9 remainder 1860. Village and most of houses built by his successor.
