The target is situated in front of a natural hill which acts as the bullet stop. There is a large stone structure 11m long with a short corrugated iron roof, it gas a large grassy mound in front. The metalwork of the two targets remain and also the ruinous wooden shed which held the targets. This was a 600yd range. The firing points at 200 and 500yds are still visible and also footings of the rectangular ammunition shed. The 600yd firing point was not looked at due to boggy ground.
Annette Jack visited site with Mr J Calder who lived at 'Rhinamain' a croft beside the range and has known the range site since he was a young boy. He was the range marker for Bonar Bridge Rifle Club. The range was used by the Sutherland Highland Rifle Volunteers (Scottish Highlander 1880's) also by TA, Home Guard and Bonar Bridge Rifle Club. The target was made of canvas on wooden frames. The ground behind the target was eroding, revealing rock, causing the bullets to ricochet. The range was thought to be too dangerous and went out of use approx. 50 years ago.
