Full Description

A faint, but regularly shaped hollow, appears to represent all that is left of a building shown as roofed on the First Edition map and partly roofed on the Second edition map and lying within its own enclosure. The hollow measures approximately 10m WNW-ESE by 5m N-S and is on the same alignment as the building shown on the early OS maps. The bedrock is very close to the surface and the ground slopes away to a marshy area to the north. The two crofts on either side of this building are also present on the First and Second edition map, although their present form indicates that they have been rebuilt subsequent to the compilation of these maps, probably early in the twentieth century. It is possible that the stone from the building went into the construction of these houses. No trace of the associated enclosure could be seen. The boundary, lying to the south of the building and running in a south easterly direction, is a drystone wall. All the other boundaries in the area are post and wire fences, so it is possible that stone from the building has also been re-used in the field wall, which again post-dates both First and Second edition maps.
