Full Description

NH64NE 123 6661 4535.

'The foundation trenches for a very small building being re-erected in this lane revealed layers of charcoal, red burnt clay, and sand and gravel, reminiscent of the medieval layers revealed during excavations in Castle Street in 1979. (NH64NE 104) These layers were only visible to a depth of 0.6cm - some of the concrete foundations already having been poured into the trenches. No finds were recovered to accurately date these layers.
G Harden 1986.
