Full Description
Roy (poss based on Pont's map) quite clearly marked 2 distinct settlements both named Loggie. Although the RCAHMS runs the 2 settlements together, this SMR number refers to the western of the 2 (E = NH19SW0004). This is depicted on 1st ed OS as large but totally deserted. According to Mr Bastow (local researcher) the local residents are certain this this site was deliberately cleared. He suggests in the EC19 when one main farm was established over the area.
The village buildings survive as very clear earthworks showing generally large rectangular buildings built in terraces up the side of the hill. There appears to be one main street towards the W end, with other (slightly more irregular) buildings on the other side. Some buildings have been partially built over with a series of linked sheep folds, one gable wall of an earlier building is integrated within one outer wall. Photo. - HAW 12/2002
