Find - Iron slag.
Incorporated into the construction of the ‘maze’ of Feature 012 (above), in the third row in from the W exterior, is a large piece of reddish/brown iron slag, which is, obviously, somewhat out of context. The rounded lozenge-shaped, heavy cobble measures approximately 15cm x 10cm x 10cm.
Given that the cobbles used for the construction of the maze have almost certainly been sourced very locally (maybe from the river bed of Allt a’Mhuilinn, 40m to the W), this is further evidence of a local metal-smelting industry in the vicinity (see Features 046 and 047 below). <1>
