Full Description

Grouse Butt.
Fairly degraded, 4m diameter, disused grouse butt, but in a better state of preservation than many of those described in Features 092 to 096 (below). Its 0.6m thick peat turf walls survive to 0.4m high and the interior is a soft, bare peat area. Erosion has occurred from the inside towards the outside, with the outer face remaining intact. Some stone is visible in the construction of the peat walls. The former entrance opens to 315 degrees, and a 0.2m wide and 0.2m deep drainage channel has been cut for 4m from the entrance down the slope, possibly in order to drain the interior. <1>
