Full Description

Corn-Drying Kiln Remains.
Remains of small corn-drying kiln, neatly built into the NE side of a small, bracken and heather-covered ridge between a very small tributary of Allt Smeòrail and Allt Smeòrail itself to the E. The structure is orientated with its upper, bowl end towards 073 degrees, which is tucked into the SW side of the ridge and set 1.5m below its summit, and is 3.5m long and 3m wide. The grass-covered bowl is 1.5m wide at its top and 0.8m deep and is constructed of round-edged, sub-angular cobbles and boulders.

There appear to be no walls to the structure; rather the natural ground surface has been used as its boundaries, as it is recessed into the ridge. There is, however, a large, 0.9m wide x 0.6m high and 0.4m deep lintel in place above what was the flue, which is currently blocked 0.4m in from the front. The distance from the front of the lintel to the lower, SW internal edge of the bowl is 1m. <1>
