Full Description

Corn-Drying Kiln Remains.
12m to the SE of the existing access track, a possible corn-drying kiln, now rubble-filled and grassed over, which indicates that another possibility is that it is merely a wide, linear clearance cairn. It measures 6m downhill, trending 136 degrees, and is 3m across. The width of the possible upper, bowl end walls are 1m and the height is approximately 0.3m, being just one boulder course high. The lower, rectangular end of the structure is fairly indistinct, but a linear jumble of large boulders, extending SE for 3m from the S corner of the structure, could have formed part of the kiln walls.

The orientation of this structure, trending parallel with the 12 degrees-sloping, grassy meadow, is correct for the usual situation of a corn-drying kiln, with its bowl at the upper end.

A small fragment of brown-glazed pottery, 4mm thick was discovered in a molehill on the E corner of the structure. <1>
