Full Description

NH62NW 53 6065 2610.

This pair of burnt mounds is located in open moorland 1km SSE of Ruthven farmhouse. They stand 12m apart and measure 8m in length by 7m in breadth and 0.75m in height (USN93 67), and 7.3m in length by 5.5m in breadth and 0.5m in height (USN93 68). The long axis of both is NE-SW, and both open towards the SE where they have been clipped by a later drain. The drain has cut the SW arm of the NE mound (USN93 68), exposing burnt stones, while burnt stone and charcoal are visible in an eroded exposure in the SW arm of USN93 67.
(USN93 67-8)
Visited by RCAHMS (SDB) 4 March 1993.
