Full Description

Grouse Butt.
Southernmost of a line of 10 (originally 11, according to OS 1:10000 scale map of 1962) grouse butts, trending NNW up the Allt Ghimmer valley floor (see Plate 34). It is 3m across x 2m deep, in a broad U-shape and has a 1m diameter internal area. The walls, entirely of peat turf, overgrown with a luxuriant cover of moss, lichen and sedge, are 1m thick and stand 0.8m high at its leading edge, and the entrance opposite opens to 102 degrees.

It is set on gently SE-sloping, moss and sedge-covered, peat bog hillside, on the SW bank of Allt Ghimmer, which is 30m to the NE, within the area identified for the siting of the turbines. <1>
