Full Description

Sonar readings and some visuals taken from an ROV have revealed the wreck of what may be a barge, standing broadly upright, in Foyers Bay. The boat appears to be made of wood, with ?iron fittings. It has a sheeted deck, with a hatch in the centre, and measures 60 feet in length by about 8 foot wide. The appearance of the boat is very modern and it is perhaps a coasting vessel, associated with the aluminium smelter at Foyers. However, a large amount of silt does cover the wreck, suggesting that - because silt does not collect rapidly in this part of the loch - it has been there for some time.
Information from Adrian Shine, July 2002.
