Full Description

A 'ropeway' is depicted on the current Landmark and OS mapping. This is reported to consist of a wooden box in which persons can be carried over the river by means of a winding rope mechanism. It is not clear if the ropeway is still in working condition, but an article in the Inverness Courier (accompanied by a photograph taken in ?1937) shows an earlier version of the bridge. The first and second edition OS maps show only a 'Ford' at this location and the ropebridge is therefore presumed to have been constructed in the earlier part of the 20th Century.

A copy of the Courier article and photograph is held in Assoc. Docs.
