Full Description
The Seven Men of Moidart are a row of beech trees (Fagus sylvatica) which commemorate the seven companions who came with Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745, when he raised the standard at nearby Glenfinnan. Thought to have been planted early in the nineteenth century, only five of the original seven trees remain as living monuments to this pivotal event in Scotland’s past. The trees stand in a row on the northern shore of Loch Moidart in a picturesque Highland setting, where they can be readily viewed from the A861. The surviving five "men" are in poor condition and the trunks are heavily decayed and rotten. One cannot help thinking that they are living on borrowed time and that the next big storm that sweeps up the glen will result in more casualties. Fine old trees that commemorate an important historical occasion.
Information supplied by Treefest Scotland 2002 - these trees are classed as one of the top 100 Heritage tree sites of Scotland.

A member of the public phoned to advise that one interpretation signs at this location has become detached from its base and has fallen at an awkward angle and filled with water. He has taken off the sign and obtained a key from Metro Signs to open and clean the inside after which it will be replaced. He phoned to find out who to advise of this. <1>
