NH82SW 15 8499 2181 to 8398 2499. MR 2 (formerly Lin 501 [part of]).

The military road is clearly defined as it skirts N round Inverlaidnan hill. After descending through the woods it bears right and goes round the edge of the forestry until it reaches Insharn. Shortly afterwards it traverses the Allt-an-Aonaich, a tributary of the River Dulnain, by a Wade bridge at NH 8425 2227 (NH82SW 14). The route then heads right, rising to a ridge and passing through the corner of a forestry plantation, before tracking its W edge as far as the railway. As it passes the croft of Ardouran, where some buildings actually stand on the old road, the remains of another Wade bridge are visible at NH 8425 2377 (NH82SW 6). The bridge is very decrepit and so no longer used. As the route nears the Slochd there is a modern bridge over the railway at NH 8422 2398 which marks the line of the old road. Having crossed the railway, the military road turns left and descends to a junction with the A9 at Slochd Mor.

Visited by OS November 1966.

As far as the farmstead of Torbreck (NH82SW 11), the military road takes the form of a fairly rutted track, with segments of banking being visible on either side. For approximately 50m the remains of the farmstead?s head-dyke lie along the W side of the track. As the track heads N, cutting through a conifer plantation, it becomes somewhat overgrown. Just S of the deserted settlement of Ortunan it traverses a reconstructed stone bridge at NH 8425 2377 (NH82SW 6). N of Ortunan the route follows a fairly rutted grass covered track with a dyke along its W side. Crossing the railway by a modern bridge, with fragments of original road fabric existing in the vicinity of the bridge, it becomes a gravel track 4m wide, somewhat overgrown and eroded in parts. This heads N as far as Slochd Mor.
