Crofting township laid out on the grid pattern unique to Gairloch Estate, bounded to the south by the Allt an Raoin Chruaidh. The houses built along the road running NE-SW through the township are still occupied, others on the square lots away from the road are now abandoned. There is little new building within the township
Buailnaluib school now serves the whole Aultbea area.
Roy’s military survey indicates an unnamed settlement in this general area. Details of the pre-crofting township would be in the Atlas of the Townships of Gairloch (1848), but the original farmsteads are likely to have been above the arable ground, around NG 8680 9035.
