Full Description

An investigation of the area showed that most of the rectangular wall around the garden was completely covered in turf and grass surviving to less than 0.5m, while the N section still has intact stone courses visible. The building depicted on John Farey's map was not identified, and blocks of worked stone were noted on the river bank where the bridge was located. No bits of pottery or midden material was discovered in a quick mole-hill search.

------

A walled garden is depicted on the OS 1st Edition Map. It is surrounded mature trees. It was thought to have been used by the near-by farm located on the flat land to the S of the pool, and a small bridge connecting it to the north bank of the River is depicted on John Farey's map dated 1812.
