Full Description

The Balnoe Linen Works are mentioned in the Old Statistical Account, and the cotton mill is thought to have been built in the 1790's. The site of the linen works was probably at Newton Point. No reference to their construction or workings has been found. It was however mentioned in the Edinburgh Advertiser on 15th April 1800, when it closed.
