Full Description

Alan Ross reports article in the People's Journal for 19.08.1916 of butter keg in Peat moss "during peat cutting Mr John Cameron Camnscork Strontian & his brother came across a very interesting find in the shape of a keg containing butter. The roots of a tree trunk are to be seen where the keg was dug out. The photo shows that the keg was strengthened with a thong of either cow-hide or deer-hide" Suggested that this is settlement known now as Camaschoirk, area of peat workings not known so GR centred centred to C. - HAW 3/2004
