Monument record MHG33211 - Rosebank, Brora

The grounds of this house appear on the OS 1st Edition Map (1879, compiled in 1871) and, according to Farey's estate plan, appear to have been used as garden ground at least as far back as 1813 (Jacqueline Aitken, pers. Comm.). On Farey's plan, a small building is shown on the south side of the road immediatley to the west of the junction while, slightly further to the west, another small building and what appears to be an enclosure, are aslo depicted. It is probable that these features now lie under the road or, at least, have been heavily distrubed in the intervening period. Rosebank House has a datestone of 1872, while there are early photographs which suggest that the rear wing has always been in use as a shop (ibid). This is the first house along the north side of the Coalpit Road to have been built.
