Monument record MHG33810 - Carnach

Recorded by Roy’s military survey as cultivated land but no settlement. By 1837, laid out as one croft, and five fishermen’s families settled here although the shoreline is unsuitable for pulling in boats. The schoolmaster’s croft enclosed by a drystone dyke, probably around 1873 (see Scoraig Primary School)
Population reduced until all of Carnach was one croft holding in 1964
Remains of buildings and enclosures down by the shore probably the fishermen’s cottages, as recorded as unenclosed land on the 1st edition OS map, between the schoolmaster’s croft and Carnach croft
