NH91NW 52.01 9052 1670 Bridge.

The military road can be traced most of the way up to Kinveachy. However, at a point approximately half a mile S of Avielochan it has been obliterated by an embanked extension of the A95 linking it to the A9. To the N of the embankment the Wade road is visible for a short distance but then becomes lost under the A9. At Avielochan there is a broken-down bridge at NH 9052 1670 (NH91NW 52.01) and 2 miles N, opposite the point where the A95 for Grantown turns right, Wade's road can be clearly traced ascending Lethendy Hill from the vicinity of Kinveachy Lodge gates. It passes a house with adjoining kennels and then comes to a fork in the road, the grassed track to the left being the military road, which continues to rise.

The military road is visible initially as a grass covered track 3m wide displaying several early drainage features, including the remains of a square stone culvert. Segments of flanking banks can be seen as well as a 25m stretch of a possible original back ditch, located along the W side of the S end of the track. Possible original drainage channels are also visible within the banks along this stretch.
The A9 then cuts the military route, which reappears to the N as a 3m to 8m wide grass and heather covered track running through a wood. Heavy gorse cover somewhat obscures the S end and some trees encroach on the track. On each side remains of banking can be traced. Having crossed a stock fence, it traverses an 18th century stone bridge at NH 9052 1670 (NH91NW 52.01) and heads through a field under pasture, where all traces are lost.
At Avielochan the military road follows the A95 for just over 1 km as far as NH 9069 1707 and then traverses two fields, being possibly visible as a faint raised strip passing through the field to the N. The A9 then cuts through the military route, which becomes increasingly overgrown and has been affected by vehicle erosion. There are signs of the original road fabric in the form of intermittent stretches of banks. S of Kinveachy Lodge cottages the road follows a modern metalled track, a short section of which has been built-up in the vicinity of NH 9197 1846 to give access to the A9. This has obliterated any earlier road remains. Along this part of the route there are a series of modern drainage features. The line of the Wade road then lies on a short section of tarmac driveway to Kinveachy Lodge cottages.
