A group of sixteen mounds and two huts lie in a natural hollow overlooking the gully Glac na Criche Deise from the NW. The mounds are all probably the remains of collapsed huts, and, although they vary considerably in size and shape, the majority are oval, with the smallest measuring 5.3m by 4.3m and the largest 11m by 7.3m. Many contain stones and boulders, some of which may be structural. The two huts both overlie mounds and are defined by little more than stony rims, one being circular, some 3.5m in internal diameter, and the other subrectangular, measuring 4.3m from ESE to WSW by 2.4m transversely (NG 2229 0477; NG 2233 0476).
Rabbit burrowing has caused considerable damage to many of the mounds but sherds of pottery were discovered in the upcast from burrows into two (NG 2229 0477 and NG 2230 0476).
(Canna 592-600, 651-8, 934-5).
Visited by RCAHMS (SPH,ARG), 5 April 1995.
