A rectangular building and adjoining enclosure lie at the foot of a knoll on the N side of a wall overlooking the tidal channel between Canna and Sanday. The building measures 7.9m from NE to SW by 3.4m transversely within a stony bank 1.2m in thickness and 0.8m in height; the SE side of the building is now incorporated in the modern wall. The enclosure is attached to the NE corner of the building, where there are traces of another possible building or small enclosure, but this appears to be overlain by the wall of the enclosure on the SE. The enclosure measures 13.8m from NE to SW by at least 6.8m transversely within a stony bank 1m in thickness and 0.4m in height.
Only the building is depicted on the 1975 edition of the OS 1:10,000 map, but two roofed buildings and an enclosure are shown on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Argyllshire, 1881, sheet lix).
(Canna 914-5).
Visited by RCAHMS (ARG), 11 April 1995.
