Full Description

NH63NE 29 672 374.

Centred at NH 672 374 in an area of marsh and dry rises is a settlement of four huts (A-D) (two noted by Woodham {A A Woodham 1965}) each formed by a stone wall spread to a regular width all round. The hut dimensions are given between wall centres.
Hut 'A' is oval, oriented NW to SE and measures c. 14.0m by c. 12.0m transversely with the wall spread to c. 4.0m. The 'simple' entrance in the SE is c. 1.5m wide.
'B', set into the top of a rise and ill-defined appears to be circular measuring c. 9.0m in diameter with wall spread to c. 3.0m. A gap in the SE leads into a oval annexe measuring c. 6.0m NE to SW by c. 4.0m transversely. In the SE is a 'simple' entrance c. 1.0m wide.
'C' is oval measuring c. 11.5m from NW to SE by c. 9.5m transversely with the wall spread to c. 2.5m. The 'simple' entrance in the SE is c. 2.0m wide.
'D', situated in an area of reafforestation, is destroyed in the W by a fence. It is oval measuring c. 11.0m NW to SE by c. 9.0m transversely with the wall spread to c. 2.5m. The entrance is not apparent.
In the vicinity of the huts are a number of stone clearance heaps, probably from associated cultivation plots but deep heather obscures details of fields.
Huts surveyed at 6" scale.
Visited by OS (R L) 14 January 1970; A A Woodham 1965.
