Full Description

Centred at NH 675 382 in undulating moorland, formerly afforested, is a settlement of eight stone-walled huts (A-H) and an associated field system. Except for 'D' and 'G' all the huts are circular. The hut dimensions are given between wall centres.
Huts 'A' and 'B' are contiguous lying NE to SW.
Hut 'A' to the SW of 'B', measures c. 12.0m in diameter with the wall spread to c. 3.0m all round. The entrance in the E is mutilated.
'B', at a lower level than 'A' is denuded measuring c. 13.5m in diameter between the centres of a wall of indefinite thickness. The entrance is not evident.
'C' measures c. 10.0m in diameter with the wall spread to c. 2.0m all round. The SE arc is mutilated and the entrance is not evident.
'D' is destroyed in the N by a quarry and in the E by a road. It measures c. 10.0m NW to SE with the wall spread to c. 2.5m.
'E' measures c. c.9.0m in diameter and the wall spread to c. 2.5m all round. The 'simple' entrance in the E is c. 0.8m wide.
'F' measures c. 6.0m in diameter with the wall spread to c. 2.0m. The 'simple' entrance in the ENE is c. 1.0m wide
'G' situated on a knoll and covered by gorse, measures approx 10m E to W by 8.5m transversely but is so over-grown that accurate measurements cannot be taken and the entrance cannot be seen.
'H' is also overgrown, but it appears to be circular measuring approx 9.5m in diameter . The entrance is not evident. A hole has been dug inside the hut in the NE.
The field system is defined by stone clearance heaps and an occasional lynchet and field wall but the previous afforestation and a heavy growth of peat and heather has obscured details of cultivation plots.
Surveyed at 6" scale.
Visited by OS (R L) 20 January 1970.
