Full Description
NH63NE 37 657 352.
Centred at NH 657 352 are two circular stone-walled huts, both ill-defined, and a contemporary field system.
Hut 'A' measures c. 8.0m in diameter between the centres of a wall spread to c. 2.0m. The E side is mutilated and the entrance is not evident.
'B' measures c. 10.5m in diameter between the centres of a wall spread to c. 2.0m in the W, but barely traceable elsewhere. There is no evidence of an entrance.
The field system, marked by stone clearance heaps and a few lynchets, is partly overlaid by cultivation associated with a ruined steading at NH 6566 3523. No measurable plots were discerned.
Visited by OS (A A) 22 January 1970 and (A A) 23 October 1967
Surveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (A A) 4 January 1972.
Aerial photographs (RCAHMSAP 1994) reveal cord rig, aligned approximately NW-SE, to the NW of hut-circle 'A', and there may be a further patch of much fainter rig to the NE of 'A'. The grass-grown footings of a building are also visible to the W of the public road. A roofless structure depicted on the current edition of the OS 1:10,000 map appears to overlie the N end of this building which may have had two or three compartments.
