The modern road appears to be on the line of the military road heading N through Glen Shiel.
W Taylor 1976.

NG 9604 1500 to NG 9500 1789 modern road on line. All original bridges destroyed by roadworks.
Visited by OS (NKB) 23 September 1966.

The line of the military road in this section appears to be overlain by the A87.
M Logie (Highland Council) 1997; NMRS MS 1007/6.

According to information from Mr Ramsay, the old military road turns from the line of modern A87 opposite the site of the memorial at the south end of Loch Shiel. It then heads southwards up the slope and from the summit gradually falls down to meet the main highway not far from an old soutterrain (MHG7462). <1>
