Towards the E end of Oronsay, a farmstead, comprising three buildings, an area of unenclosed cultivation and a large, irregular enclosure were noted during a pre-afforestation survey of the NE part of the Drimnin Estate. The largest building (NMRS MS 1012/1, no.141) is situated at the base of a rocky knoll and measures 9.25m from E to W by 4.95m over walls, which display a slight batter, narrowing from 0.8m to 0.6m and standing up to 1.35m in height. The entrance midway along the S wall and there is a suggestion of a blocked window to the E. There are two, possibly three cruck slots visible in the W half of the building. Walls extending from the N side of the building to the knoll form a small enclosure, whilst there is an area of unenclosed cultivation (NMRS MS 1012/1, no.142), measuring 56m from E to W by 31m, defined by a herb-rich grassland surrounded by heather-covered ground. There are a further two buildings on the W side of the cultivated ground, the N (NMRS MS 1012/1, no.143) of which is another dwelling. It measures 7.7m from E to W by 5.2m over 0.6m thick walls standing up to 1.05m in height. What may be an entrance lies in the S wall. There is a 3.25m long by 3.7m wide outshot on the W end. It has an entrance in the S wall against the end of the main building. The second structure (NMRS MS 1012/1, no.144) lies 5m to the S. This very dilapidated and overgrown building measures 4.2m from E to W by 3.3m over 0.6m thick walls standing up to 0.8m in height. A small enclosure (NMRS MS 1012/1, no.145) lies to the WNW between these buildings and a larger irregular enclosure (NMRS MS 1012/1, no.146). Traces of rig are visible from vertical aerial photographs (RAF CPE/Scot/UK/376 frame 4180; 30 April 1948).
