NH63NW 29.03 6029 3768.
In 1848 this ferry-pier was built on the E side of the channel between Loch Ness and Loch Dochfour as there was no bridge or lock in place. In 1864 a stone pier replaced the wooden one.
J Lindsay 1968.
This had been a very busy crossing prior to the dredging of the canal, so the Canal Commissioners provided ferry piers.
G Hutton 1992.
The ferry line from this pier is visible on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, sheet xix), Bona Ferry is marked on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1905, sheet xix), and the location of the pier is visible on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1975) and on the OS Basic Scale raster map (ND).
