Full Description
A possible 2-celled structure was recorded by M Wildgoose in 2003 during a walkover survey in advance of a proposed forestry Woodland Grant Scheme. Situated on a grassy terrace, close to a small burn, is a robbed structure which is now completely grassed-over. The visible remains consist of two shallow depressions wih a slightly raised ring-bank around their edges. The remains measure 12m x 5m overall. This site may be the remains of a robbed-out two compartment house. <1>
140530 855055 Kingsburgh 03 EB212: The structures were visited by A Welti and A MacInnes in 2010 as part of research for a dissertation on hut circles in Wester Ross. This was part of a degree course overseen by Aberdeen University. Here there are 2 grass covered ring mounds adjoining one another on a gentle SW facing slope, (EB212 and 212a), with shallow depressions at the centres. 20 m to N are remains of a slightly sloping circular platform (EB212b - see MHG) in an arc with a bank 0.8 m thick. This could be a HC platform. There are remains of other structures in the vicinity. The whole area is heavily grazed. Measurements for EB212: average outer diameter 7.4m, inner diameter 5m. Ring bank thickness 2.5m. For EB212a the outer diameter was 7m and inner was 6m. Construction of walls was impossible to deduce. These structures are possibly too small to be HC's and may be shielings. <2> <3>
[Note: a database was set up as part of research for the dissertation and was subsequently expanded as an extension of the We Digs Project (see website link below). The full access database can be made available to enquirers/researchers if requested - contact HER for details]
Note: NGR moved to location as seen on 1999-2001 APs [IS-L 01/02/2017].
