Big Island (NAT) Cairn (NAT) OS 6"map, (1959)
There is a hut circle on possibly artificial island in Loch Calder, which is said to have been a robber's dwelling about 1600.
F O Blundell 1913; Name Book 1872.
Big Island is now almost completely submerged apart from a small pile of stones about 4m in diameter, showing above water. No boat available for close examination.
Visited by OS (R D) 3 November 1964 and (I S S) 16 March 1972.
Loch Calder is now a reservoir and the water level has been raised. Though level was relatively low at the time of investigation, island was submerged.
