Full Description
The remains of a small, kidney-shaped enclosure are situated on the flat haughland on the N bank of the Berriedale Water, and are thickly covered with bracken. It is formed by a strong earth and stone wall some 1.7m wide with an average height of 0.6m; it measures 12.0m E-W by 7.5m transversely. At the W end, the entrance, 0.6m wide, appears to lead into a small outer chamber but this area is very confused. No internal features were noted due to the density of the bracken.
Visited by OS (W D J) 4 July 1960.
(ND 1061 2468) Enclosure (NR) OS 6" map, (1964)
An enclosure as described by previous OS field surveyor, situated in an area of run-rig now under pasture. The 'outer chamber' at the W end is a ruinous rectangular building. All evidence suggests that enclosure is post-medieval and contemporary with the run-rig.
Visited by OS (N K B) 10 November 1982.
