Eilean a' Chaisteal - "The Castle Island, so called because of the dun or hillfort it once possessed."

Ordnance Survey: 1877: Object Name Book: : Vol. 13: p29.

No trace of fortification on Eilean Chathastail (OS 6" map 1903). The name does not mean Castle Island, but there is conflicting local opinion on its proper translation.
