Full Description

Centred at NH 585 249, on the SW shoulder of the hill named Cairn Ardachy, is a settlement of five stone- walled huts (A-E) with field system. (All measurements across huts are between wall centres).
Hut 'A' built up on the slope, is oval measuring c13.5m E-W by c12.0m N-S, with a wall of indefinite width. Outer facing stones are visible on the lower S side, and the inner face is traceable on the N arc. The entrance is not evident. A lynchet extends from the SE arc.
'B' is oval and built up on the slope. It measures c9.0m E-W by c8.0m N-S, with both inner and outer facing stones occasionally visible in the N and E arcs, giving a wall thickness of about 1.8m. Elsewhere the wall is spread to c2.5m. An ill-defined gap in the E arc probably indicates the entrance.
'C' also oval and built up on the slope, measures c11.5m E-W by c10.5m N-S, with a wall spread to c2.5m all round. A number of outer facing stones are apparent in the S and E arcs. The entrance in the E is splayed from c1.1m inside to c2.7m outside.
'D' set into a saddle, is circular, measuring c14.0m in diameter with a mutilated wall spread to c3.0m where best preserved. A clearance heap lies within the hut towards the S side and a lynchet joins the wall in the E. The entrance is not evident.
'E' built up on the slope, is circular measuring c10.0m in diameter, with a denuded wall spread to c2.5m. No entrance is apparent. The field system comprises ruined field walls, lynchets and stone clearance heaps forming cultivation plots varying between c45.0m by c25.0m and c15.0m by c10.0m.
