Full Description

NG26SW 5.01 23 60.

There are extensive areas of banks and cultivation remains in a swathe up to 500m across to the E of the public road to Trumpan. To the W of the road the survival of cultivation remains is much more patchy because of intensive improvement. The further W and nearer to the coast the more intensive the improvement and the more fragmentary the remains, although aerial photographs show a far more complete picture than can be seen on the ground. In the less disturbed area to the E of the road globular fields can be seen to overlie extensive areas of largely unenclosed lazy-beds. The lazy-beds have a wide range of widths and profiles and appear to be arranged to take account of minor changes in topography and drainage creating a patchwork of blocking units. Some sequence of construction can be seen in the globular fields which have also provided a focus for later agriculture represented by widely spaced shallow grooves in areas of grass in a predominantly heather ground-cover.
Beginning at NG 2341 6086 are two parallel banks, probably defining a trackway, and running to the ENE for 200m through ridged land, ending on a terrace devoid of cultivation remains. It may have been associated with the cluster of buildings at its WSW and may have been related to stock control.
Visited by RCAHMS (DCC) 29 September 1990.
