Full Description
NH79NW 21 745 988.
Centred at NH 745 988 on a SE-facing slope is a settlement of five poorly defined stone-walled huts (A-E) with field system.
Hut 'A' on a shelf, is circular, measuring 14.0m in overall diameter. Occasional outer facing stones are visible, but all other details are obscured by peat growth.
'B' survives as a circulr platform, 8.5m in diameter set into the SE slope. It is bounded on the NW side by a back-scarp, and on the lower SE side by a stony build-up. No entrance is apparent.
'C' is oval, measuring c.11.5m NW-SE by c. 10.0m between wall centres, the wall being spread to c.2.0m all round. A gap in the SE arc may indicate the entrance.
The field system, defined mainly by stone clearance heaps with occasional field walls and lynchets, is best preserved in the vicinity of hut 'A', where a typical field measures 30.0m by 15.0m.
Visited by OS (N K B) 17 November 1969.
'D' is oval, and measures 12.0m NW-SE by 11.0m between wall centres, with the wall wasted in the S. Entrance gap in the SE.
'E' is 10.5m in diameter between wall centres. Entrance is in the SE. Huts surveyed at 1/10,560.
Visited by OS (J B) 13 May 1975.
