Monument record MHG42684 - County Salon (Former Post Office & House), Cawdor Village

These buildings were photographed as part of a character appraisal of Cawdor Conservation Area in 2015. <1>

This 'C' listed building has a small front garden and an access drive to gate on side. The garden has a horizontal panelled fence with chicken wire to front, a tall wood picket double gates to side then a high harlled wall.

The building is rectangular, one and a half storeys high with a small extension to rear. Built of harl pointed rubble stone with tooled rubble dressings to the front, it is clay built to the rear.

The roof join to UID 51 is via an interesting interlocking hip ended roof. The roof is traditional Scottish slate with leaded ridgelines with two stone corniced stacks, each with two tall ornate pots. It has black traditional style metal guttering and downpipe.

The building has three dormer windows, all are slate sided with slate angled hip ended roofs, lead ridged and sealed. Two dormers have a single four light sash windows with white wooden frames and two two light sash side windows with white wooden frames. The third dormer is a small four light sash window with a white wooden frame.

The ground floor has two pairs of two two light sash windows with white wooden frames.

To the front is a red herringbone patterned wooden door with brass fittings and a single light fanlight.

There is a TV aerial on north chimney stack, an external light above door, and three hanging baskets on front wall plus plant training cables.
