Full Description

Centred on 132 545

An area of rig cultivation, running ENE from the road for 50m towards a slight natural terrace, was noted by J Wordsworth during a pre-afforestation survey. In the N the rigs average 4m in width whilst to the S they are about 5m wide. Relict field boundaries, shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1963) are also visible amongst, and to the E of the cultivation.
At ND 1330 5445, there is an oval depression, which is annotated as an 'Old Quarry' on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1907, sheet xvii). It is probably no more than the source of material for the adjacent stone dyke or for road metalling.
J Wordsworth (Wordsworth Archaeological Services) 28 August 1997; NMRS MS 961/24, nos.2 and 3
