Tolbooth (NR) (Site of) OS 1:500 plan, (1872)
The site of the old tolbooth is built on: it is now used for two shops; it was last used (as a tolbooth?) about 1827. The date of the building is unknown.
Name Book 1872.
The Town Hall and Burgh Jail, erected in 1750, occupy site of the kailyard of the minister's manse which stood in Tolbooth Lane. It is now (1895) occupied by a draper's and a watchmaker's shops. The building was superseded by the new town hall and prison in 1828. The original tolbooth, not a vestige of which remains, was prior to this building on the site now occupied by ex-Provost Riach's shop and the Bank of Scotland.

From info given by Horne, tolbooth was sited to ND 3636 5101, its site now occupied by the Bank of Scotland. The town hall and burgh jail (built 1750) was sited to ND 3638 5101, its site now occupied by a draper's shop. No trace of either of these old buildings remain. Visited by OS (W D J) 21 April 1962.
