Pentland Firth [name centred ND 35 81].
24 October 1852, unknown, sloop, place - Old Ebbs off St. John's Point, Pentland Firth. Was seen to go down in the, by the Stroma pilots. It is supposed that before she went down the crew took to the boat, as they launched the boat off John O' Groats. As the day was fine it is hoped that they effected a safe landing upon the Orkney side of the Firth. Shipping and Mercantile Gazette 28 October 1852. Lloyds List 29 October 1852. Huna, 25th Oct. A sloop was seen to go down off St. John's Point, Pentland Frith [Firth], yesterday: crew supposed to be saved.

The Old Ebbs are not noted as such on the 1999 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map. The name may apply to exposed rocks [at ND 311 756] off St John's Point.
The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998).
