Full Description
NH91NW 1 9080 1611.
At NH 9080 1611, on the floor of a hollow in an undulating area of glacial knolls, are two oval enclosures, five metres apart, described as "ring-mounds" by Cash (1910). Each is defined by a stone wall spread to about 2.4m all round, but although they are well-defined and in most respects similar to hut circles, no entrances are evident.
'A' measures c. 15.0m NW-SE by c. 12.0m between wall centres, with the W arc set into a slight rise.
'B' measures c. 11.0m NW-SE by c. 9.5m between wall centres.
There is no evidence of an associated field system.
A "40' long ridge of low piled stones" to the S, described and planned by Cash (1910), is an irregular rickle of loose stones and is probably natural.
Surveyed at 1:2500.
C G Cash 1910; Visited by OS (A A) 1 October 1969.
