Wick, 29th July, the ESPERANCE (lugger), of Dieppe, went down yesterday in the Pentland Firth: crew saved.

Wick, July, the ESPERANCE (lugger), of Dieppe, which sunk in the Pentland Frith, 28th July, was bound from Iceland to Dieppe, with codfish and oil: Cointrel, master. [Record received incomplete].
NMRS, MS/829/69 (no. 3823).
(Classified as lugger, with cargo of codfish and oil: date of loss cited as 28 July 1872). Esperance: this vessel stranded at St John's Point, floated, then sank 300 yards off John O'Groats. Capt. Cointrel. Registration: Dieppe.
