Full Description

NMRS Report: (24/09/2004)
ND35SE 357 3689 5108

A light anti-aircraft gun emplacement has been identified from a WW II RAF vertical air photograph (WIC 48, 37, flown 26 November 1941) between Willowbank and Scalesburn.
The site consisted of a rectangular emplacement about 40m in length, a smaller circular emplacement about 25-30m in diameter and three Nissen huts about 50m to the N. The larger emplacement has been identified as mounting a Bofors gun whilst the smaller emplacement would appear to have been either a light machine gun or a range finding apparatus.
Entrance to the installation was from Willowbank immediately E of no.65.
A new housing estate (Whitehouse Park) has been built over the site and no trace remains of the gun-emplacement.
